To meet the needs of the College community for a reliable transportation service for campus visitors in a cost-efficient manner, the College's Transportation Secretary will oversee a Washington College driver program.
Individuals wishing to secure a College driver should contact the Transportation Secretary at least 48 hours in advance of the requested service. The Transportation Secretary will place a reserve on a College vehicle and post the driving opportunity to all eligible drivers via a Washington College e-mail listserv. Every effort will be made to make the assignment to the first eligible driver to respond, but the Transportation Secretary will have the ultimate discretion in making assignments.
Once an assignment has been made, a confirmation email will be sent to the driver as well as the faculty/staff member who made the request for service. The email will include the arrival and departure date, airport/train station, flight/train number, arrival/departure times for the passenger, the cellular phone number of the driver and, if available, the cellular phone number for the passenger(s), and the identification of the Washington College vehicle to be used by the driver.
Full-time undergraduate students with at least three years' of driving experience and graduate assistant coaches are eligible to participate in the Washington College Drivers Program. Eligible drivers must be certified by the Transportation Secretary in the Buildings and Grounds department (Maintenance Building—810-7426). Interested candidates must procure a copy of their current driving record from their state motor vehicle administration. Anyone with more than one moving violation in the past three years will not be eligible to participate. Only those individuals who have been certified will be eligible for employment/compensation as a Washington College driver.
Eligible drivers must use a College vehicle. Washington College drivers will be paid a flat rate, regardless of the number of passengers, according to the chart below. The standard number of hours to each destination appears below. If the estimated round-trip driving time is exceeded due to excessive traffic or a delayed flight/train, the driver will be eligible to submit for additional time paid at the rate of $15.00 per hour.
